Alfonso Cuarón splits from longtime girlfriend

“Gravity” director Alfonso Cuarón will be untethered this awards season in Hollywood after breaking up with his longtime girlfriend, Sheherazade Goldsmith, sources say.

Cuarón, who won the Best Director Oscar in 2014, is back this year with “Roma,” the semi-autobiographical story of his upbringing in Mexico City in the 1970s.

“Roma” won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, and is Mexico’s Oscars entry for Best Foreign Language Film. The movie is being pushed for a Best Picture nomination, too. The 56-year-old filmmaker has two Oscars and has been nominated six times for his work on “Gravity,” as well as “Children of Men” and “Y tu Mamá También.”

But Cuarón, who was first linked to the glamorous Goldsmith four years ago, won’t have her on his arm.

“I believe the official line is that they are no longer together,” said one source in London, where both live. Reps for Cuarón and Goldsmith didn’t get back to me.

Goldsmith, 44, who has a jewelry company, is the ex-wife of Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative MP and former London mayoral candidate, with whom she has three children.

Cuarón also has three children from previous relationships, and has been rushing home to London from his promotional trips to the States to spend time with them.
