Piers Morgan Twitter: GMB host mocks Madonna in CUTTING Eurovision 2019 takedown
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 54, had some savage comments to make about 60-year-old pop legend Madonna’s performance at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 last night. After she took to the stage, singing Like A Prayer and a new song, Future, from her upcoming album, Madame X, Piers Morgan couldn’t help but share his thoughts with his 6.6 million Twitter followers. “RIP Madonna’s career,” he tweeted, alongside a screenshot of Madonna on the show. Piers also spoke out on 21-year-old UK entry Michael Rice’s disappointing last place finish, comparing his performance favourably to Madonna’s.
“Cheer up Michael Rice, we may have come last but we were still better than Madonna,” he quipped.
Many of Piers’ fans agreed with his verdict, with one saying: “That’s not saying much.”
“Thank you Piers, nail on the head!” another added, while a third chipped in: “She was embarrassing.”
Others opposed his annihilation of Madonna, with one commenting: “Still bugs you she turned down Life Stories doesn’t it?”
“Just ask her out and move on already,” a second replied.
Another Twitter user insisted: “Madonna is a global icon though. She was the guest – there’s no need to compare.
“Fair play for Madonna to still get up on stage and do that. I’d say that makes her a winner.”
As mixed reviews circulated following her performance, Madonna took to Twitter, sharing her gratitude for being able to share her songs with the world.
“Madame X is a freedom fighter,” she told her 2.4 million followers. “I am grateful. For the opportunity to spread the message of peace and unity with the world.”
Madonna’s leather and armour costume, complete with a metal crown and an eye patch, caught the attention of a certain group of Eurovision viewers.
Game of Thrones fans came out of the woodwork to claim the outfit looked as though it belonged on the HBO show.
“Wait, is Madonna coming to steal the Iron Throne?” one asked, while another joked; “Anyone else getting Game of Thrones vibes from Madonna’s performance with all fire?”
“I’m really enjoying #Madonna cosplaying Game of Thrones at #Eurovision,” a third chimed in.
Elsewhere in the who, Madonna also caused controversy by making a political statement despite it being it flouting the non-political spirit of the competition, which was being held in Tel Aviv, israel, this year.
At one point during Like A Prayer, the popstar walked towards the back of the stage, putting on a show of unity as she linked arms with two backing dancers, one with a Palestinian flag on their back and the other bearing the Israeli flag.
The European Broadcast Union has since confirmed the tune was “not part of rehearsals”, saying: “In the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, two of Madonna’s dancers briefly displayed the Israeli and Palestinian flags on the backs of their outfits.
“This element of the performance was not part of the rehearsals which had been cleared with the EBU and the host broadcaster, KAN.
“The Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political event and Madonna had been made aware of this,” the statement said.
