Rapper Kevin Gates probed after photo shows him flashing ‘contraband’ in prison visit
Rapper Kevin Gates is being investigated over a series of photos showing him flaunting hundreds of dollars during a prison visit in Louisiana.
The photos posted on Gates’ Instagram on Monday show him sitting at a table holding up multiple C-notes while visiting his father, Lee Lucas, and fellow rappers, C-Murder and Mac, who are inmates at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center in St. Gabriel.
“I went up to the Prison today to visit #LeeLucus #CMurder #Mac #BigMarlo and #Cornbread everybody in these photos have been gone over 20 years – @trucmurder told me tell you all he loves you and oh yea,” Gates captioned the post.
Louisiana Department of Corrections spokesman Ken Pastorick told The Post the large sum of cash was “unacceptable and a violation.”
“It is against Elayn Hunt Correctional Center policy to bring case exceeding $300 into the prison, and any amount above that is considered contraband,” he added.
Gates, 33, was on the visitation list for Lucas which indicated he signed documents acknowledging the prison’s policies.
Pastorick said an investigation is currently underway.
Lucas was convicted for shooting a man in the chest in 1996. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence, according to court documents. He is currently appealing his sentence.
C-Murder was convicted for the 2002 shooting death of a 16-year old and is currently serving a life sentence. Mac was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 30 years to life in prison over the shooting of a 19-year-old, Hiphopdx reported.
