Star Trek actress Celeste Yarnall passes away following cancer battle

Star Trek actress Celeste Yarnall has died aged 74.

Celeste, who was known for playing Yeoman Martha Landon on the October 1967 episode of the sci-fi show opposite Chekov, died on Sunday.

Her husband said she passed away at her home in California following a "long struggle" with ovarian cancer.

“She was pure love and pure light,” he said. “This was her essence. She was a source of good. She was always for the betterment of humanity, especially women.

"She was very much a trailblazer in women’s empowerment. She was a spectrum of things.”

He added to Fox News: “I’m just so inconsolable. She was my everything.”

Celeste also appeared opposite Elvis Presley in Live A Little, Love A Little, and last year revealed the music icon was a big fan of Star Trek.

She told the Sky Arts film: “Elvis was a Star Trek fan. He even had a horse named Star Trek.”

The actress had appeared on Presley’s favourite TV show just a year before they worked together.

She said: “First day on set, Elvis gave me the biggest hug, and he said, ‘I just couldn’t wait to meet you. I knew you were coming. And I know you from Star Trek.’

“We became very, very dear friends and very close very quickly.”
