Easter Monday tragedy as woman dies and several injured in head-on horror crash
A pensioner died in a horror head-on crash in an Easter tragedy yesterday.
Several other people – including two teenagers – suffered serious injuries after a Toyota Yaris and a Citroen C4 collided along a busy dual-carriageway.
Emergency services dashed to the A38 in Wychbold, Worcestershire, to tend to several victims at around 4pm.
But the woman in her 70s died at the scene, West Mercia Police confirmed today.
An eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said two teenage passengers were among those hurt in the smash.
The road, which takes traffic off the nearby M5 into Bromsgrove and Droitwich, was closed for hours as police cleared the wreckage.
A spokesman for the force said: "West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses or information following a fatal collision in Wychbold, Worcestershire.
"Police were called around 4pm on Bank Holiday Monday 22 April to a collision involving a Toyota Yaris and a Citroen C4 on the A38 at the junction with Chequer’s Lane, close the M5 Junction 5.
"One person, a woman in her 70’s, sustained serious injuries and sadly died. Several of the passengers of both vehicles were also injured and received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Road closures were in place whilst emergency services were in attendance.
"Officers are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or has any dashcam footage of the incident. If you have any information, please call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 506s of Monday 23 April 2019."
The pensioner has not been named at this stage.
Pictures taken at the scene show the crumpled wreckage of the silver Citroen C4, crushed by the impact of the smash.
The silver Toyota Yaris was also left with a smashed front-end.
The investigation into the crash continues.
