Shoppers bought a staggering 287,000 items of clothing on Amazon Prime Day this year, causing the site to crash.

And the standout product from the shopping frenzy is a pair of cut-off cotton leggings, which has been officially crowned its number one bestseller across the whole of women’s fashion.

The skintight cycling shorts, from Futuro Fashion, come in 19 colours and cost from just £2.25.

They appear to be inspired by Kanye West’s Yeezy bike shorts, as modelled by his wife Kim Kardashian.

Other celebrities including TOWIE’s Lauren Goodger and Kendall Jenner have followed suit in recent weeks, wearing similar skintight styles.

However the style is not for the faint-hearted, with their figure-hugging design and thin material meaning they show off the wearer’s every lump and crevice.

Despite being seemingly tricky to pull off, the shorts are garnering rave reviews online, with shoppers praising their comfort and versatility. 

One delighted customer said they were ‘suitable for wearing under summer dresses to prevent chafing’.

Glasgow label Futuro specialises in purse-friendly activewear and claims to have served 1 million customers as well as being one of the most popular brands on eBay.

Amazon Prime Day 2018, its second and biggest yet, saw shoppers buy millions of products as the retailer slashed the prices of items across fashion, tech and homeware over 36 hours.

But Prime members in the UK hoping to score great deals during the annual sale were temporarily hit by a global crash.

By contrast, the celebrity-loved Yeezy Season 5 bike shorts start at around £255.
