Eastenders spoilers: Bailey Baker struggles revealed after mum Dinah’s death?
Bailey (played by Kara-Leah Fernandes) has been caring for her mum Dinah (Anjela Lauren Smith) as her health deteriorates, but it is unclear how she will deal with the loss.
With her mental health severely affected by her worsening symptoms and the pressure on Bailey, Dinah decided to take her own life.
Now, Eastenders will show how the young girl deals with the loss of her mum.
Bosses of the BBC show have enlisted the help of a specialist childhood bereavement charity to show the effects of the loss a young person.
This storyline will hopefully continue to raise awareness
As Eastenders steps up its tackling of mental health issues, producer Kate Oates has revealed what will happen next in the harrowing storyline.
She told Metro.co.uk: “Over the past few weeks, and into this summer, EastEnders has been featuring a range of different stories about mental health. Through characters like Sean, Jean and Bex, we’ve sought to examine the spectrum of different challenges that so many people face, either openly or in secret, every day.
‘With Dinah and Bailey’s story, we have been able to examine what happens when poor physical health takes its toll on mental health but we have also been able to explore the topic of young carers and what happens when a child loses a parent.
“In Bailey’s case she has been her mother’s primary carer for the majority of her life and now not only has to deal with losing her mum but also to understand that Dinah made the decision to end her own life. This storyline will hopefully continue to raise awareness of an incredibly important issue.”
Dinah had previously suggested to Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) that she wanted to end her life to prevent her suffering further, but Karen tried to change her mind.
However, it was suggested that Dinah ultimately took her own life in tonight’s instalment.
Fans are now worried for young Bailey when she discovers her mum’s death.
One fan tweeted: “Dreading Bailey finding out about Dinah.”
Another fan suggested how Bailey might move on after the death: “Karen is so good with Bailey! She’ll be like a surrogate mum.”
After the death, Bailey’s dad Mitch Baker (Roger Griffiths) is set to blame himself as he was due to see Dinah just before she died.
However, he was held up at his barber’s by Mick Carter (Danny Dyer) asking for a haircut for his son Ollie.
Mitch obliged, as Mick declared: “You’re a hero, Mitch.”
“You owe me, big time,” the barber responded.
After finishing Ollie’s trim, Mitch was ready to leave but another appointment walked through the door.
Bailey will now need her dad more than ever as she deals with the loss of her mum.
EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
