Love Island fans left squirming over Caroline Flack’s dodgy ‘age gap’ comment
The Love Island Aftersun host usually goes down a treat with viewers, thanks to her show-stopping entrances and witty one-liners.
But fans of the show couldn’t believe what they were hearing on Sunday night’s episode after Caroline Flack made a controversial comment about “age gap” relationships.
The 39-year-old was chatting to dumped Islanders Chris Taylor and Harley Brash about their onscreen romance when the subject of their eight-year age difference came up.
Chris, 28, said he hadn’t initially considered dating the 20-year-old in the villa because he felt that he was too old for her.
The hunky business development manager said: “Thing is I was originally aware of the massive age gap between me and Harley and then we got to know each other better, and I was like ‘it doesn’t even matter’…”
In response, host Caroline chipped in by saying: “There’s nothing wrong with an age gap.”
On Twitter, viewers were utterly floored by her choice of words, particularly because of her high-profile relationship history.
One said: “Caroline Flack LOVES an age gap…”
The Enfield-born babe has since spoken out about the media backlash, and the hardship it caused her in the months that followed.
Discussing the day that their relationship went belly up, she said: “He was pictured coming out of my house one morning. And that was that.
“In the street, people started shouting ‘paedophile’ at me and ‘pervert’.”
Luckily, if her comment on Aftersun is anything to go by, she seems to have found the funny side of the situation over time.
