Peaky Blinders cast: Who plays Gina Gray? Who is Anya Taylor-Joy?

The Peaky Blinders cast has featured many talented actors through the years and season five is no exception. The fifth series introduces American actress Anya Taylor-Joy as Gina Gray, the new wife of Michael (played by Finn Cole). The actress who plays the new character may be familiar to BBC viewers from a number of TV and film projects.

Who plays Gina Gray in Peaky Blinders?

Gina on Peaky Blinders is played by 23-year-old American actress Anya Taylor-Joy.

The actor, who was raised in Argentina and London according to the Telegraph, may be familiar to viewers from a role in another British TV show.

Before Hollywood fame beckoned, Taylor-Joy starred in a 2014 episode of Endeavour and also appeared in BBC fantasy series Atlantis in 2015.

Her first role was earlier in 2014 when she appeared in an uncredited role in film Vampire Academy.

In 2015, however, she landed the role she was best known for prior to Peaky Blinders.

That year, she played Thomasin, the young female lead of cult horror film The Witch.

The film, sometimes known as The VVitch to fans due to the way the word appears on the poster, won Taylor-Joy numerous plaudits.

For example, she was named Best Female Newcomer in the Empire Awards and was named Best Actress by horror magazine Fangoria.

She followed this up with roles in other horror films, like sci-fi horrors Morgan and Split, both released in 2016.

She reprised her role in the latter this year for its sequel, Glass.

However, the actress has also appeared in less terrifying fare.

For example, 2016 also saw her appear in Barack Obama biopic Barry, while the following year she returned to British TV for a role in BBC drama The Miniaturist.

2019 has already proved a hugely busy one for Taylor-Joy, who apart from Peaky Blinders is also voicing a character in both The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and Playmobil: The Movie.

She is also due to star in Radioactive this year, a biopic about Marie Curie with Rosamund Pike playing the scientist.

Next year will be equally busy, with the actress playing Emma in an adaptation of the Jane Austen book, joining the X-Men universe for The New Mutants as well as two other films

Her next TV role, meanwhile, will also come in 2020 when she will star in upcoming Netflix mini-series The Queen’s Gambit.

Peaky Blinders season 5 airs Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
