Watch: Mo’Nique Threatens to Punch Steve Harvey During Intense Interview About Blackball Claims
AceShowbiz -It has been reported that Mo’Nique and Steve Harvey got into a heated argument when she stopped by “Steve” to promote her residency in Vegas, “Mo’Nique Does Vegas”. Now, the talk show has released two videos of the much talk-about fight that saw the two comedians discussing about Mo’Nique being blackballed from the industry.
Steve first talked about her getting labelled difficult after the Oscar-winning comedian pushed back when the producers of “Precious” asked her to do more Oscar campaigning. “I said one word. “And that was, ‘No,’ ” said Mo’Nique, who took home the statuette for Best Supporting Actress. “I said no to some very powerful people. I said no to Oprah Winfrey, I said no Tyler Perry, I said no to Lee Daniels and I said no to Lionsgate.”
She went on saying that she was hurt when Steve publicly criticized her without trying to reach out to her. “When you went on the air and said, ‘My sister burned too many bridges and there’s nothing I can do for her now,’ do you know how hurt I was?” she explained.
The 62-year-old host responded, “You and I had this conversation. I thought you went about it wrong. I felt you had done yourself a disservice by the way you chose to go about it.” He also said to her that “we can’t cure darkness with more darkness.”
Steve said that he didn’t like the fact that they were arguing, though Mo’Nique said she wouldn’t call it arguing. “You and your sister.. we havin’ a conversation, and Mommy and Daddy ain’t here right now, and I’m getting ready to punch you in your mouth,” Mo’Nique exclaimed.
The heated interview continued in the second part, in which Steve tried to set the record straight about where he stood. “Here is what I want you to understand, as we try to come through this, I know who you really are, I want you to come through this. I love you like a sister, I hate what is happening to you. I want them to know you are caring, a great mother, you are an incredible mother,” he told her while holding her hand.
He continued saying, “I don’t like the fact you’ve been blackballed…I want this to end for you. Because I love you. Because these people are doing it the wrong way and you’re better than that. I probably should’ve called you as soon as it happened, but I didn’t. When I did, I listened to you, but I told you in the beginning we’re going about this the wrong way.”
At the end of the interview, Steve said, “These people owe you an apology. You owe those people an apology. Then we can move forward.” He went on promising Mo’Nique, “Then I’m gonna ask them to say it publicly so you can get the release that you need.”
This conversation arrives nine years after Mo’Nique declined to campaign for a scene-stealing role as an abusive mother in “Precious” during awards season. Director Lee even criticized for her “demands,” and at one point, Mo’Nique told Daniels, Perry and Oprah to “suck my d**k” during a stand-up.
