THE cool, unsettled theme looks clear to continue this weekend. Expect a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers on Saturday, perhaps with some longer spells of rain affecting the north.

There is still a chance of persistent rain and strong winds arriving from the southwest which may affect some parts for a time, most likely on Sunday.

Next week will most likely stay cool, changeable and showery, with some larger and longer spells of rain at times.

There are some indications that towards the end of this period generally drier and more settled conditions will establish themselves across the UK.

Temperatures will generally be close to or a little below average at first, but there is a chance of occasional warm spells in the east and southeast.
