The low-down on radio-frequency facial treatments

Road Test

This week I try … a Thermage skintightening treatment

The lowdown I'm at Skin Renu for my yearly face and neck tune-up with Thermage CPT. Jess marks my face in preparation for the 1200 pulses she will deliver into my dermis using a one-use Thermage tip that vibrates as she works it over my face. I have taken painkillers in preparation; you know what they say – no pain, no gain. It is all about getting heat, via radio frequency, into the skin at a constant level to soften areas like the nasolabial folds, as new collagen forms in response to the "stimulation".

Pain factor The sensation is initially okay but the pain gets worse as the procedure goes on.

Downtime The process takes about 90 minutes with no extra downtime.

Results Two weeks after treatment, my colleagues comment on how well I'm looking. The tightening results last for up to six months.

Where to get it Sydney: Skin Renu, Cost: $1990. Melbourne: The Melbourne Institute of Plastic Surgery, Cost: $2200.

New releases from Sodashi are always hotly anticipated and this one is certainly no exception. Ask Stephanie

How do I apply concealer under my eyes?

The pro tip for applying concealer is to place it in a V shape under your eyes, with the tip of the V ending at the tip of your cheekbones, rather than just swiping it on haphazardly. This technique will brighten up your whole face. Try Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eye Eraser Concealer (, $19).
