Speaking from Portugal, property expert Ben Hillman joked about the rivalry between the show’s presenters as he admitted they all “dream of having the best” selling record. The Channel 4 presenter also discussed the changes to the show amid the coronavirus pandemic.

We all dream of having the best record.

He laughed: “It is independent [selling] but we all know I find some of the best stuff.

“I would say we are all aiming to get as many sales as possible, not in a pushy way, but we all dream of having the best record.

“At the moment, I’m at 100 per cent with this block.”

He added: “It’s not like we’re chatting amongst each other like, ‘I’ve got this and you’ve got that’.

“It’s all through the grapevine, the crew will be like, ‘Oh Jasmine [Harman] got so many sales when we were last with her’ and you’re like, ‘Oh did she now? Well let me beat that then’.

“It’s all tongue and cheek.

“The thing is, the properties are set for the week and you can’t force someone to buy a property.

“They’ve got to want to buy it, it is pot luck at the end of the day.”

Ben, who has been a regular presenter on the show since 2014, is currently catching up on his schedule after filming for the series was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Presenters began re-filming for the programme back in July, when lockdown measures were eased.

As expected, safety precautions have been put in place in line with the Government’s coronavirus pandemic advice.

Despite this, Ben said the show is still “as good as it’s ever been”.

Explaining the changes, he added: “We’re wearing masks when we’re not filming and what have you, but it feels as good as it’s ever been.

“I don’t think we’ve had to compromise and sacrifice on the quality of the show, which is fabulous, it’s really amazing.

“But, obviously we do take all the precautions we need to take, but I don’t think people even notice when it comes on the tele.

“Obviously, we keep our social distance when we’re filming, I’m just a little bit further away from the house hunters when we’re going into the rooms and set ups.

“We’re sort of reducing the number of set ups we’re doing in the houses.”

“I don’t think you do [notice] because we can cheat angles on camera, so even though I’m standing away from them when you’re filming from a certain angle it makes us look closer and there’s all that kind of stuff,” he added. “It works quite well.”

Ben went on to say the toughest part of the job is missing his wife Gaby and their two children while working abroad.

“I’m a real home bod, I love being around my family and being around my kids, they’re the number one thing in my life.

“To be intensely with them for all that time [through lockdown] and then all of a sudden not, that was quite tough.”

A Place In The Sun continues today at 3pm on Channel 4.
