Addison Rae Opens Up About Negative Body Image Comments
Addison Rae is speaking out about negative comments online.
In her new Glamour UK interview, the 20-year-old opened up about how a lot of the comments have to do with her body image and how she navigates them.
“A lot of it has to do with body image,” she says. “It’s a really hard thing to deal with when you’re a girl, especially going through your teens, and kind of growing out of that. I mean, guys deal with it as well. There’s so much around body image that people have this high standard, like, ‘Oh, you have to look like this to look great or to look hot or to be cool or to be pretty.’ Like you have to look like this or your body type has be like this.”
“For me, a lot of people have been like, ‘Oh I love how comfortable she is and she doesn’t look like the beauty standard.’ It’s kind of a backhanded compliment sometimes because people will be like, ‘I’m so glad she’s confident that she doesn’t look perfect,’” Addison continued. “It hurts sometimes when people say that, because I think everyone’s perfect, so why is there some standard of ‘this body is the ideal body’? I feel like there’s so much that I’ve thought about in the past year that doesn’t really define me and there is no standard of perfect because there is no such thing as perfect.”
“I’m 20 years old and I feel like my body’s always changing, especially now more than ever,” she added. “So I think it just really comes with me wanting to be my healthiest version of myself, and I think that’s what at the end of the day, I think about you know. I don’t have to look a certain way to be perfect or to be healthy. It’s really just about my body and physically and mentally, and emotionally being as healthy as I can.”
