BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker was confirmed as the eighth contestant to join the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 series. The broadcaster addressed his concerns about taking to the dancefloor as he reacted to Olympian Adam Peaty.

The 44-year-old took to the micro-blogging site and retweeted a photo of the three-time Olympic champion.

Adam, 26, swapped his gold medals for a gold dress as he shared a light-hearted update from his Strictly preparation.

The British swimmer showed he was getting into the spirit of Strictly by slipping into a shimmering gold and red dress usually reserved for one of the female dancers.

The swimmer proudly posed for a snap on social media, wearing a black face mask as well as a necklace with the Olympic rings.

Adam captioned the post: “Think I got the wrong outfit @bbcstrictly.”

The Olympic champion showcased his toned physique flashing his muscular arms and legs.

Dan took the opportunity to respond as the presenter joked he may have to work harder at the gym.

In view of his 722,000 followers, the BBC Breakfast host penned: “*Books a leg session at the gym*#Strictly.”

Fans inundated the broadcaster with comments, as they joked he may have his work cut out.

One penned: “If you’re looking to compete with Adam Peaty mate, I think you need to book an everything session.”

“Bit of catching up to do Dan?” another quizzed.

A third wrote: “May need more than one ‘legs’ session!”

While a fifth added: “It’s just tactics Dan. Don’t let them get to you. Nothing gonna stop twinkle toes Dan.”

Meanwhile, the BBC Breakfast host will join a host of famous faces for the new series of Strictly.

In a recent interview, Dan revealed that he had been approached by BBC bosses a “few times” to take part in the dance competition.

While the dad-of-three explained that while he enjoys watching Strictly, he is slightly apprehensive about showing the world his dance moves.

Dan told “I’ve been asked [to do Strictly] a few times. I see Strictly as a spectator sport.

“Also, I’m 6ft 6in and I’ve got an incredibly huge wingspan. They’d have to get a much bigger studio in there. But I do enjoy it and we like watching it as a family.”

He added: “My wife loves it. I’ve taken her to the Strictly shows a few times.”
