Brad Pitt: Is this the ‘family obligation’ behind actor’s no-show at BAFTAs 2020?

Actor Brad Pitt, 56, reportedly met up with his 18-year-old son Maddox, who he shares with ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 44, to make amends following an alleged dispute. The father and son are said to have fallen out while flying on a private jet in 2016, which resulted in an FBI investigation.

Following this, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star is said to have been keen to rekindle his relationship with his son.

A source told The Sun: “Maddox gave Brad the chance to talk and he dropped everything.

“Being a father is the most important thing in his life and he would do anything to repair their relationship.

“Maddox has been away at university so when Brad found out he was going to be around and they could have a conversation, he cancelled the UK trip.”

  • Brad Pitt ‘pulls out’ of attending BAFTAs due to ‘family obligation’ has contacted a representative for Brad for a comment.

Despite his absence at the ceremony, held at the Royal Albert Hall, he stole the show with his acceptance speech.

The star won the gong for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Cliff Booth in the hit movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

His co-star Margot Robbie, 29, accepted the award on his behalf and read out his speech to the crowd.

Brad Pitt’s speech included a flippant swipe at Brexit and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step from the royal family.

“Brad couldn’t be here tonight due to family obligations,” she began.

She continued: “Hey Britain, how did you just become single? Welcome to the club – Wishing you the best with the divorce settlement,” which prompted the audience to laugh.

The Hollywood star’s joke comes after United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union on January 31, which has been titled Brexit.

The actor also couldn’t resist taking a cheeky swipe at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from their senior roles.

Margot continued: “He also said that he’s gonna name this Harry because he’s really excited about bringing it back to the States with him.”

She added: “His words not mine!”

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge didn’t seen offended by his remarks as they were seen laughing in the audience.

Brad split from his second wife Angelina back in 2016 after two years of marriage and 12 years together.

The former couple have five other children together; Pax Thien, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13 and twins Vivienne and Knox, 11.

Angelina spoke out about their split for the first time in January 2017 in an interview with BBC World News.

She said: “I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family, and we will always be a family.

“And we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it.”
