Cliff Richard has announced that he will cease going topless for his annual calendar, much to some of his fan’s disappointment. Despite his decision to put an end to the racy tradition, he recalled his last topless photoshoot left radio host Chris Evans speechless.

When I did my last one, Chris Evans said on the radio that it couldn’t be my body

Sir Cliff Richard

This year will be the singer’s 42nd official calendar, selling over 1.5 million copies in total over the years.

He broke the news in his new book The Dreamer, writing: “I suspect I have done my final topless photo.

“I suspect it’s time to gracefully exit the Chippendales market.”

With a fair few under his belt, the Mistletoe and Wine hitmaker revealed the Virgin Radio DJ believed his head had been superimposed onto someone else’s body when his latest topless annual organiser was released.

“When I did my last one, Chris Evans said on the radio that it couldn’t be my body,” he recalled.

“They must have superimposed my head onto somebody else!”

He added: “That made me laugh.”

Just turned 80, the Evergreen popstar whose dashing calendars regularly top the best-seller charts, opted for a smarter look for his highly-anticipated 2021 edition.

Posing in a dapper suit, he playfully strummed a guitar while clad in a gold and black sequinned blazer, paired with a patterned black shirt.

He defied his age as he boasted double denim and a white and black suit as he modelled different stances for each shot.

In 2013, he sparked an outcry from fans when he hinted he was set to end his calendar days.

That year, Cliff channeled Baywatch vibes as he posed topless on a jet ski with nothing but some patterned trunks and a gaping yellow life jacket, bearing all.

He said at the time: “I think the reason why the rumours got out that I’m not going to do any more is probably because it’s true.

“No, not completely. You have hit the nail on the head – how many shapes can I pull with this body?” he joked.

The Mail Online reported that in recent years, Cliff’s calendars have outsold all of his younger rivals apart from X Factor boyband, One Direction.

But sadly, fans won’t see a bare chested Cliff again – not on a calendar anyway.

Earlier this year, the musician accused radio stations of snubbing his music for younger stars.

Without the support of the airwaves, he moaned that he and other artists from his era are forced to go on tour, which is proving difficult as his “long-term fans” are no longer with us.

He told the Greatest Music of All Time podcast: “Why will people download a record of mine if they don’t know it’s out?

“Those of us who have proven ourselves over and over and over again should be given a priority chance [on radio], even if it’s to say, ‘We are going to play this record once a day for two weeks’.

He continued: “Without radio, there is nothing we can do other than go on tour, which is not only tiring, it gets less efficient as time goes by, the audiences get smaller. We are all dying. Long-term fans may not be with us any more.”

Cliff recently released his latest album Music… The Air That I Breathe, to celebrate his 80th Birthday.
