Early David Bowie Recording Headed To Auction

The oldest studio recording of David Bowie, recorded when he was 16-year-old, will hit the auction block in September.

The long-lost demo tape was unearthed by Bowie’s former band mate David Hadfield from his old bread basket in South London.

The 1963 demo tape features “I Never Dreamed” sung by the then-David Jones, with his first band the Konrads.

The Konrads drummer Hadfield told media that no other recording of the demo featuring David as lead exists.

“Decca initially turned us down, but when they eventually gave us an audition later that year, vocalist Roger Ferris was the lead voice and David sang backing harmonies,” he was quoted as saying.

Bowie died of cancer in January 2016, just two days after his final album, Blackstar, was released on his 69th birthday.

The auction is expected to fetch $13,000 for the rock ‘n roll gem, reports say.
