ESPN Will Not Use Hank Williams Jr. For ‘Monday Night Football’

ESPN will not be using country star Hank Williams Jr.‘s “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night” for upcoming “Monday Night Football” games.

According to reports, ESPN decided the song wouldn’t fit during a season in which fans are not allowed to attend games.

“Monday Night Football” will instead be kicked off by a version of Little Richard‘s song “Rip It Up” with new instrumentals from a band called Butcher Brown.

“Monday Night Football” originally started using the Williams song in 1989, but it was dropped in 2011 after he compared President Barack Obama to former Nazi dictator Adolph Hitler. ESPN later started using the song again in 2017.

“Monday Night Football” kicks off on September 14, with the Pittsburgh Steelers taking on the New York Giants and the Tennessee Titans facing the Denver Broncos.
