Fern Britton, 63, and Phil Vickery, 59, split last year after 20 years of marriage. Just months before, the chef hinted the pair didn’t speak a lot as he discussed their daughter Winnie becoming an adult. The This Morning regular made the admission after he revealed his children preferred Fern’s spaghetti bolognese to his.
During an interview on Lorraine, Carol Vorderman held up a bottle of ketchup and asked him why the sauce had caused arguments at his home.
He explained that Fern used to make spaghetti bolognese with ketchup – much to the delight of his children.
“Fern would make one and [it’s] all gone,” he revealed. “They admitted to me that they like mums better than [mine], because she puts ketchup in it”.
Carol went on ask Phil about his only child with Fern, Winnie.
“She’s leaving school soon,” he revealed, which prompted the host to ask if he and Fern would be left alone at their shared home.
He joked: “Well, we might have to start talking to each other possibly.”
Phil went on to say Fern had been busy with her book while he had been cooking and flying around the world.
“And in your kitchen,” the presenter added.
“I can shut the door and there’s no hassle,” he replied.
Fern and Phil announced their split on their respective Twitter pages in January 2020.
The author’s tweet read: “After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.
“We will always share a great friendship and our lovely children.

In her first interview after their split, she said their separation had been a “difficult” time.
“We simply needed to follow our own paths,” she told Woman and Home magazine.
In another interview, the former This Morning presenter said she was enjoying single life.
“I’m not a man-hater. Men are great,” she told The Mirror. “I don’t think I’m prepared to hand over my autonomy just yet.”
The presenter has three other children Grace, Harry and Jack Jones with her first husband Clive Jones.
Phil was also previously married to Sarah Ann Lock from 1990 to 1999.
Fern Britton’s Holy Land Journey airs today at 9am on ITV.
