George Michael's ex Fadi Fawaz caught breaking into late star's home
George Michael’s ex Fadi Fawaz was caught breaking into the late star’s London home, days before the fourth anniversary of his death.
The 47-year-old allegedly smashed the window at the £5 million townhouse near Regent’s Park and shouted at police officers: ‘This is my place. George wanted me to have it.’
The incident occurred at around 11am on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: ‘Officers found a man inside the property. A window that had allegedly been smashed was later boarded up.’
Fawaz was not arrested, and reportedly complied when police asked him to leave the area.
A witness told The Sun: ‘Fadi looked in a bad way, like he’d been living rough. He was very emotional.’
They added: ‘He’s been his own worst enemy for years but it’s hard not to feel some sympathy for him.’
According to the publication, Fawaz has been living rough and in budget hotels in East London.
Fawaz has had numerous run-ins with the police over George’s house since the Wham! star died aged 53 on Christmas Day in 2016.
The hairdresser had been living in the London townhouse since the popstar’s death, but after it emerged that George had not left anything for him in his £96.7 million will, his family tried to hav Fawaz removed from the house.
In July 2019, Fawaz was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal damage, having been squatting at the London address.
He was accused of ‘going berserk’ and breaking windows and lights in the house, but claimed that he had been renovating.
It was said that George’s family had been sending legal letters asking Fawaz to leave, but he had claimed squatters’ rights.
After his arrest, the locks on the home were changed.
Fawaz – who dated George for four years – was also arrested back in August after allegedly smashing cars with a hammer.
George was found dead in bed on Christmas Day 2016 by Fawaz, at the star’s home in Goring, Oxfordshire.
An inquest in 2017 later ruled that the Careless Whisper singer died of natural causes, stating he had dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.
