Harvey Weinstein faces six new charges of sexual assault
Harvey Weinstein is now facing six new charges of sexual assault.
The convicted rapist is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for historic sexual assault charges.
The new charges are part of an ongoing case against the 68-year-old, and include other sexual assault claims from two alleged victims.
Jackie Lacey, the Los Angeles County district attorney said the allegations date back more than a decade.
One allegation is that he raped a woman at a Beverly Hills hotel between September 2004 and 2005.
The other allegation states that Weinstein raped another woman on two separate occasions at a hotel in Beverly Hills in November 2009 and November 2010.
They bring Weinstein’s charges up to four counts of rape, two of sexual battery by restraint, and one of sexual penetration by use of force.
There are five alleged victims for crimes that allegedly happened between 2004 and 2013.
If convicted, Weinstein could face up to 140 years in prison.
The New York Times states that Lacey said: ‘I am thankful to the first women who reported these crimes and whose courage have given strength to others to come forward.
‘The willingness of these latest victims to testify against a powerful man gives us the additional evidence we need to build a compelling criminal case.’
Juda Engelmayer, a spokesperson for Mr. Weinstein, said: ‘Harvey has always maintained that all of his physical encounters throughout his life have been consensual, and that hasn’t changed.’
On February 24, Weinstein was found guilty of criminal sexual act in the first degree and rape in the third degree, and faced a maximum sentence of 29 years in prison.
Judge James Burke handed down a sentence of 23 years, during a hearing at the Manhattan Criminal Court.
Judge Burke told Weinstein: ‘This is your first conviction, but not your first offense.’
Since his conviction, the former producer has been stripped of his CBE by the Queen after being honoured in 2004 for contributions to the film industry.
