Holly Willoughby opens up on the importance of teaching children about racism

This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby has shared an emotional post to Instagram about the responsibility she feels to teach her children about racism following the tragic death of George Floyd in Minnesota.

The 39 year old has three children; Harry, 11, Belle, nine and Chester, five and she shared a quote by Cleo Wade, an American activist, to he Instagram which highlighted the importance of discussing race issues.

This comes after, earlier this week, George died after a Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for seven minutes until he could no longer breathe. The horrific incident, which was caught on video, has sparked mass protests across America.

Derek Chauvin has been charge with with manslaughter and third degree murder, but the three other officers present are yet to be arrested.

The quote of Cleo’s that Holly shared, reads: “The world will say to you: We need to end racism. Start by healing it in your own family.

“The world will say to you: How do we speak to bias and bigotry? Start by having the first conversation at your own kitchen table.

“The world will say to you: There is too much hate. Devote yourself to love. Love yourself so much that you can love others without barriers and without judgement."

Holly has been homeschooling her kids since the closure of schools owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the star has still managed to have fun during these testing times, having enjoyed a virtual murder mystery party on Friday evening with Phillip Schofield and his family.
