I’m A Celebrity: Fans plead for the return of host Holly Willoughby after viewing figures plummet following her record-breaking series

She impressed fans with her successful hosting stint last year.

And fans of Holly Willoughby have called for her to return in next year’s series after I’m A Celebrity suffered a serious viewing figures drop in her absence.

The This Morning host, 38, won record ratings last year for her time as presenter alongside co-host Declan Donnelly, while Ant McPartlin took a year off.

During Sunday night’s final, viewers were still missing the TV favourite as they watched Jacqueline Jossa be crowned queen of this year’s jungle.

Taking to Twitter, one said: ‘Controversial but prefer @hollywills and @antanddec. Sorry!!’

While another penned: ‘Tell you what would make #ImACeleb bring back Holly Willoughby instead of Ant… she was cracking with Dec last year!’

A third said: ‘I think that @ImACelebrity should consider letting @hollywills join @antanddec in presenting next years show! As I think they would all be great together.’

Another mused: ‘Holly was way better. Jokes were a bit stale this year lads #ImACeleb.’

However not everyone was in agreement and others expressed their joy that Ant and Dec were back together, with one saying: ‘Thanks boys for giving us another brilliant series. Can tell Ant was missed last year just by the chemistry.

‘Love Holly, don’t get me wrong, but nothing will beat the dynamic duo that is @antanddec #ImACeleb now what do I do tomorrow at 9pm.’

Another was in agreement and said: ‘As much as I love @hollywills it was nice to see @antanddec back together on #IAC they’re hilarious, I cannot believe it’s over already. Well done @jacquelineMjos.’

One social media thought the duo were back to their best, and said: ‘I absolutely loved Holly last year but it’s fab to have had @antanddec back together on finer form than ever this year x #imaceleb.’

Although many suggested they would love to see Holly return as host, they added that they’d also like to see Ant and Dec go into the jungle as camp mates for the show’s 20th anniversary next year.

Partnering her with a selection of co-hosts, including Scarlett Moffatt, Phillip Schofield and Stephen Mulhern, they argued it would be a great switch up for the show’s celebratory year.

Holly’s series received its highest viewing figures ever last year, pulling in more than 14 million viewers for its opening and a steady 12.2 million throughout it’s run.

The ratings suffered a drop during the opening of this year’s series, with 11.9 million viewers tuning in for the first episode marking the return of Ant, however it was still the most popular episode this series.

Followed by the final, which was watched by a peak of  10 million viewers and an average of 9.1 million TV viewers and a 43% share.

Current viewing figures suggest that the average audience across the whole show has been 11.2 million viewers, meaning the show has lost one million viewers compared to last year.    

Ahead of the live final the show took a blow as it was revealed the ratings had dropped by five million throughout the series.

Despite fans pleas for Holly to return to the programme in some way, producers are apparently loving having old favourites Ant and Dec back together.

As source told the Daily Star Sunday: ‘Even with the ratings going down, they are still confident that the lads are the best ­presenters for the show. 

Adding: ‘That means they won’t be bringing Holly back.’
