James Martin, 48, has insisted he isn’t interested in the difference in ratings between Saturday Kitchen and Saturday Morning after leaving the BBC show in 2016. The chef presented Saturday Kitchen for 10 years before he quit and was replaced by Matt Tebbutt.

He went on to front ITV’s Saturday Morning from 2017.

James explained that following his departure from Saturday Kitchen, he doesn’t pay too much attention to the programme.

When quizzed on whether he monitors the “rating gap” between the two shows, the star said: “I don’t even look.”

James revealed he has confidence in his new show because it was commissioned for another series by ITV.

He added in an interview with The Times from 2018: “I know it’s doing well because they’ve commissioned it again.

“It doesn’t interest me.”

James also said he “doesn’t miss” the live television aspect of hosting Saturday Kitchen, as Saturday Morning is pre-recorded from his home.

He explained in response to being questioned about the broadcasting change: “No, not really, because I’ve done it for so long.”

James recently returned to filming new episodes of Saturday Morning after taking a break due to the coronavirus lockdown.

The television personality gave fans an update on changes which had been made to the programme last month in an Instagram post.

James posted a picture of his kitchen and told his 435,000 followers they had made a few changes in order to follow COVID-19 restrictions.

The chef has been making regular live appearances on ITV’s This Morning during the pandemic, but his self-titled show had been airing instalments which were filmed before lockdown.

His post began: “Well it’s been a while so might be a bit rusty.. the new Saturday show series.”

“A few changes as you can imagine, limited crew, guests etc…” he continued.

“But new ideas and the team have been working hard to make it all work given the amount of restrictions in place.”

He signed off: “Let’s do this thing then.”

Elsewhere, James shared a sweet family moment with his mum, who he snapped preparing food for him in the kitchen.

The small-screen star admitted alongside the snap that she would be less than impressed to find out he had posted a picture of her on social media.

The This Morning favourite wrote in the caption: “She’s gonna kill me for this but I b****y love this woman…

“Mother cooking me dinner.”

Saturday Morning with James Martin airs today at 9.30am on ITV.
