BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine revealed that a criminal had “struck his family in Christmas week” in his latest Twitter post. The star shared the CCTV footage of the “porch pirate” who stole the package with his 774,100 followers.

Jeremy, 56, tweeted out: “I’ve now worked out EXACTLY how the ‘Porch Pirate’ struck my family in Christmas week…

“And okay, lesson learned, that’s the last time I nominate a large open box as my safe place. Take a look.”

The presenter attached a video below the tweet capturing the moment the thief stole the package from the family’s would-be “safe place”.

The video begins with a DHL delivery man ringing Jeremy’s doorbell, before determining the family are not at home.

The delivery man then appears to nearly enter through their next door neighbour’s gate.

“He’s thinking about ringing our neighbour’s bell,” Jeremy provided in the accompanying captions.

At this point, another man walks past the DHL worker as he walks back onto Jeremy’s porch in order to leave the package in his chosen safe place.

Jeremy wrote: “We’re unlucky here. The DHL guy is going to leave it in the grey box as the thief passes.”

As the delivery man drops off the package into a large grey box behind the bins on Jeremy’s front porch, the radio host speculated about the thief: “He probably glances back around now.”

“DHL guy doing nothing wrong. He had a note to leave it in the box,” he added.

Half an hour later, the same man returns on a bicycle, appearing to break abruptly.

At this point, Jeremy wrote: “He’s back. Watch how the breaks on his bike seem to take him by surprise.”

“I now wish I’d placed a small smoke bomb in the box,” the journalist quipped.

“Sadly that didn’t happen,” he added, as the man walked over to the grey box and pulled out the large parcel.

“Now the masterstroke,” Jeremy announced, “He’s checking we’re out, posing as a delivery guy.”

In time with the caption, the thief can be seen walking up to Jeremy’s front door with the package, pretending to knock and wait a few moments, before riding away with it on his bike.

“If he’s watching… I hope you enjoyed our presents mate,” Jeremy finished sarcastically as the video came to an end.

The clip comes after Jeremy’s earlier announcement that his family had been targeted by the thief.

A few hours before on Twitter, he wrote: “I got hit by a Porch Pirate a couple of days ago.

“At 1125 the @dhlexpressuk guy leaves a delivery in an agreed place; at 1207 the Pirate appears.

“Is he following the van around? He knew exactly where to go. Parcel stolen, box found ripped open 100yds away by kind neighbour.” (sic)

Jeremy is best known as the host of his BBC Radio 2 lunchtime programme, which he has hosted since 2003.

The presenter also hosts Channel 5 quiz programme Eggheads and has presented his own Channel 5 daily current affairs show called Jeremy Vine since September 2018.
