Jesy Nelson, who quit Little Mix after nine years with the girls last week, claimed she was "injected" with painkillers "50 times" before one of her performances with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall five years ago.

The Shout Out To My Ex hitmaker, 29, said she was "out of it" on stage after having several injections before it was Little Mix's time to sing on America's Got Talent in 2015.

After their performance, Jesy discovered her back was smothered in bruises and could barely remember their time on the show.

The star explained what happened in Little Mix's 2012 autobiography, Ready to Fly: Our Official Story and Our World: Our Official Autobiography, released four years later.

Jesy recalled: "On the day, my shoulder went and I couldn't move. In the end, I had something like 50 injections and my back was smothered in bruises.

"Before the show, when I was getting my hair and make-up done, people were feeding me coffee to wake me up."

Jesy went on to share how she was feeling at the time: "I was so out of it I can't remember anything much about the performance, just that on stage I couldn't get my balance.

"It was awful, the worst thing I've had to do. In a normal job you can take a day off and no one has a go at you, whereas in this job if you miss a performance, everyone's writing articles, commenting on social media and throwing abuse."

The brunette beauty then admitted a year earlier she threw up from the pain after taking powerful antibiotics for her tooth.

On top of this, Jesy was so worried about her mum's heart condition, the stress caused her infected ear to bleed.

"The pain got so bad I was in bed screaming," she shared.

"What's weird in this job is that people don't seem to believe we get ill like everyone else does – or that the people close to us get ill and we need to be with them."

OK! online has contacted Jesy and Little Mix's representatives for comment.

Little Mix first started out after being the first band to win The X Factor in 2011.

Jesy, Jade, 27, Perrie, 27, and Leigh-Anne, 29 were signed onto their mentor Simon Cowell's Syco Music label soon after championing the competition.

While Jade said her band had "no personal vendetta" against Simon, they decided to split from his record label in 2018.

Jesy announced she was leaving Little Mix last week after taking an extended break for health reasons.
