Kate Garraway shares message of hope as husband Derek battles coronavirus in intensive care

Kate Garraway has thanked well-wishers for their support as her husband Derek Draper continues to fight coronavirus in hospital.

The Good Morning Britain presenter revealed she had been battling “stress and anxiety” as Derek remains critically ill one month after testing positive for Covid-19.

One fan took to Twitter to tell Kate: “My mum (who's 80 next week and not a Twitter user!) has asked if I could let you know she lights a candle every day for Derek and for all those suffering from this horrendous virus. We send you and your family lots of love. X”

Kate re-tweeted the message, adding: “That’s so wonderful – thank you so much and sending love x.”

Another hopeful message from a fan read: “@kategarraway there’s a story on bbc news just now about a 30+ student nurse who has been in ICU for ages, and just recovered and got home… be positive… keep trying to get verbal messages to him, the subconscious can sometimes hear.”

Kate had revealed last week that she was going through “the hardest time of her life” as Derek remains ill.

Kate, who recently emotionally revealed her 52 year old husband's condition has not changed, wrote: "You may have seen over the last few weeks that my husband Derek has been seriously ill in hospital with Covid-19." [sic]

Confirming that he's still in the intensive care unit, she continued: "I am afraid that he remains in a deeply critical condition and is very ill, but he's still alive so there is hope.

"It remains an extremely worrying time for us all and the last couple of weeks have been the hardest of my life."

Kate went on to applaud the doctors who are doing everything they can to help Derek.

She said: "From the bottom of my heart a billion thank yous to the extraordinary NHS workers whose skills, dedication and downright guts in the face of so much personal risk, are keeping my Derek alive, just as they are for thousands of other Covid patients." [sic]

"I am sorry I have not been able to reply to them individually, as I am sure you will understand that I am focusing on my family and Derek right now."
