Kevin Clifton, 37, sat down with his former dance partner and comedian Susan Calman on his podcast, as the pair reminisced about their Strictly Come Dancing memories together. Susan revealed there was a particular song that the dance professional had always wanted them to perform to on the show.

However unfortunately for Kevin, things did not exactly go to plan as he did not get to use the ballad.

Susan began by discussing how the pair were originally meant to do a “show dance” to the soundtrack of Rainbow Connection, a song from the 1979 Muppets movie.

The comedian reminisced: “We were going to do our show dance, [it] was going to be to Rainbow Connection.”

He replied “Yeah.”

She continued: “I remember you wanted to do Rainbow Connection.”

Kevin interjected: “Yeah I really wanted to do Rainbow Connection, yeah and then uh,” he added.

“Then the next year Joe Sugg and Dianne ended up doing Rainbow Connection, doing a waltz, and I was like, ‘Ahhhhhh’.”

The former ballroom champion claimed Dianne and Joe who performed together in the 2019 series got to perform to the song and then ribbed him about it.

“They never let me live it down either, they always mention it like, ‘Ah yeah we got your song’.”

Susan interjected: “I remember watching thinking that was meant to be me and Kevin’s song you absolute rotters!”

Kevin and Susan appeared on the 2017 series of Strictly and still remain good friends.

Kevin has been regularly recording his Kevin Clifton Show podcast this year, in which listeners have heard him recall various Strictly Come Dancing moments with his co-stars.

In a recent episode, he spoke of meeting one of his idols, author JK Rowling.

He revealed how one-time dance partner Susan introduced him to the Harry Potter creator at a writers lunch.

“I came along and JK Rowling was one of the writers at this lunch.”

He added that he turned up at the cafe with a Gryffindor logo bag over his shoulder.

“I felt so silly. And I put the bag under the table like do I show her the bag?

“[I thought] ‘It’s going to be real embarrassing if she sees the bag’. So I ended up chatting away with JK Rowling and obviously I’m a huge Harry Potter fan.”

After the programme finished the pair also performed together during the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

Comedian Susan has said in the past that appearing on the programme pushed her out the comfort zone.
