Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Kevin Clifton, 38, took to Twitter today and responded to questions from viewers of the BBC dance show. The Grimsby-born performer reacted to a social media user who took issue with the dance choices given to Olympic champion Adam Peaty.

The 26-year-old is currently partnered with Strictly performer Katya Jones, 32, on the dance competition.

During Saturday night’s offering, the Olympic swimmer stepped onto the dancefloor for Movie Week.

The dad-of-one stunned audiences as he turned blue and channelled the 2009 James Cameron film Avatar.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Kevin responded to a Twitter user who addressed Adam’s alleged “unfair” treatment.

Ruth Powell wrote: “Kevin do the Pros know at the start of the series what dances they are doing week by week?

“It seems unfair that Adam was doing a Rumba now Argentine Tango after three weeks?

“These dances were always near the end of the series.” (sic)

Kevin confirmed that the contestants are given different types of dances throughout the series.

In view of his 249,000 followers, he replied: “Your usually about two weeks ahead all the time with dances.

“Tbh [To be honest] there’s no real reason for any dance to be earlier or later in the series.” (sic)

Kevin added: “I always tried to avoid Rumba only because it often makes no impact with audiences. [Argentine Tango] is a crowd pleaser!”

Ruth replied: “Jeez that’s a lot for them all to choreograph!

“Plus the group dances, it just seemed a shame as so early on the celebrity may not have the skills and they may go out. Though I know it is ambitious for them! Thanks though Kev, for replying.”

It comes after Adam’s Strictly scores caused a Twitter storm among furious viewers last week.

Strictly duo Katya and Adam performed a Rumba to I See You by Leona Lewis and they were hoping to improve on last week’s scores for their Quickstep.

Despite the judges’ praise, Adam landed at the bottom of the leaderboard.

Frustrated viewers vented over the decision on social media, as Scott penned: “20/40 that is a low score. Adam could be vulnerable tomorrow night. You need to get voting later to save him.”

“The Rumba was meh but definitely didn’t deserve to be lower than Dan’s Foxtrot,” JustRandomThoughts shared, referring to the mistakes Dan Walker had made in his routine which scored a 21.

Karis stated: “Oh I really didn’t think Adam’s Rumba was that bad,” with Sarah declaring: “Save Peaty #strictly.”

However, it was Katie McGlynn and Gorka Marquez who were voted out of the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One at 7pm.
