Kevin Clifton: ‘Wonder if I contracted coronavirus’ Strictly pro addresses COVID-19 fears

Former Strictly Come Dancing star Kevin Clifton, 37, spoke candidly in his latest self-titled podcast where he addressed his health concerns amid the coronavirus pandemic. The Grimsby-born performer admitted to suffering from the flu and having a fever during rehearsals for The Wedding Singer earlier this year.

Speaking on The Kevin Clifton Show, the Strictly pro admitted he had experienced similar symptoms to those people who had been suffering from COVID-19.

He explained: “But I remember in January I was really ill just before I started rehearsals for The Wedding Singer.

“I was really ill and going into rehearsals with a real heavy flu. I kept coughing all the time. I had a fever and these are some of the things that they’re talking about with coronavirus.”

Kevin revealed that he now looked back and wonders if he was one of the many who have battled coronavirus.

“I do wonder if at some point I contracted coronavirus or if it was just the flu,” he explained. “Maybe I already had it. I don’t know.”

The BBC favourite also pleaded with his listeners to take the UK Government’s advice to social distance and stay at home.

He warned that people should not be “hanging out in pubs or clubs” amid the global health crisis.

Kevin said: “The world has changed since the last couple of podcasts. I hope everyone is doing alright. I hope everyone is keeping safe. Especially, it you’re listening in London.

“I hope you’re doing your duty as best you can and staying in.”

He continued: “Not hanging out in pubs, clubs, theatres or any of that because we have a big threat at the moment with this coronavirus.

“It’s my second day staying in. I haven’t at any point showed any symptoms of coronavirus. So hopefully, touch wood I’m alright.

“I think it’s the best thing to just stay in anyway at the moment. Because that’s the best way we’re going to help.”

Kevin further addressed his own experience with suffering from the flu and like many others questioned if his symptoms was a result of the coronavirus.

“Although, I slightly wonder I might already have had it at one point. There’s a lot of people wondering whether they had coronavirus or not because we don’t know,” he remarked.

“Some of us show milder symptoms. Obviously, we’re being told for older people with underlying health conditions there going to show more serious symptoms.”

He finished: “And there going to struggle a lot more with this.”
