Lana Del Rey Announces New Album, Addresses Claim She’s ‘Glamorizing Abuse’
Lana Del Rey has officially announced her next album in a statement that also addressed claims that her music “glamorizes abuse.”
In a lengthy statement posted on Instagram, Del Rey revealed that the follow up to 2019’s Norman F—ing Rockwell! will drop on September 5.
Del Rey began her statement by calling out other pop stars for having number one songs about “being sexy, wearing no clothes, f—ing, cheating, etc.” and saying she wants to “go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorizing abuse?”
“I’m fed up with female writers and alt singers saying that I glamorize abuse when in reality I’m just a glamorous person singing about the realities of what we are all now seeing are very prevalent emotionally abusive relationships all over the world,” she added.
Del Rey went on to say that she’s been honest and optimistic about the challenging relationships she’s been in and “that’s just how it is for many women.”
