Lewis Capaldi wants a share of ex-Paige Turley's Love Island prize

‘It would have been nice to have a heads up!’ Lewis Capaldi breaks his silence on ex-girlfriend Paige Turley’s Love Island appearance (and he wants a share of the £50k prize if she wins!)

Lewis Capaldi has broken his silence over his ex-girlfriend Paige Turley’s Love Island appearance, saying ‘it would have been nice to have a heads up.’

The Scottish singer-songwriter, 23, claimed Paige, 22, only landed the ITV2 gig because of his name and so he wants a share of the £50,000 prize fund if she wins.

In a radio interview, he said: ‘The prize is like £50,000 and I’ll be like “Well, listen. They asked you to go on it right I’m not saying I’m the reason but also… slide me two grand”.’

‘She never told me she was going on it’: Lewis Capaldi says ‘it would have been nice to have a heads up’ ahead of his ex-Paige Turley’s appearance on Love Island

Lewis, who allegedly penned his No1 hit Someone You Loved about his split from Paige, said he’ll be watching the series and is rooting for his ex to go all the way in the competition.

Speaking on The Edge in New Zealand, Lewis said: ‘I’ve known her for years, we were 18 when we first met, 19 when we first started going out and 20 when we finished going out.

‘It was fairly amicable, the split. She never told me she was going on the show. That would have been a nice heads up! But I mean fair play, good luck to her.

‘I’ll be f***ing watching it! Aye, I’ll be watching it and going “Go on Paige! Come on, come on!” And when she’s on a date with a boy I’ll go “Come on! Kiss him!” I hope she wins.’

The couple’s split was said to have left Lewis ‘gutted’ and prompted him to channel his heartache through Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, the fastest-selling debut album of 2019.

Former lovers: Lewis, who dated Paige for more than a year after they met in college, said he’ll be watching the series and is rooting for his ex to go all the way in the competition

Paige allegedly cheated on Lewis with his best friend Garry Greig, causing some Love Island viewers to brand her a ‘hypocrite’ on the show.

The reality star was shocked after discovering fellow Islander Ollie Williams had betrayed a previous girlfriend – while failing to admit herself she’d been unfaithful to Lewis.

Hitmaker Lewis has remained tight-lipped about the identity of his former lover that inspired his chart-topping album.

But asked about heartbreak, he previously said: ‘I met a lady. She was very nice. I loved her. I loved the look of her and I loved how she spoke.

‘You never know, he might even vote!’: Paige was first to reveal that she hadn’t warned Lewis about being on Love Island but hoped he would see the funny side about her taking part

‘We dated for a year and a half, then she left me. Then I wrote an album about it and I still think about it every day.’

Paige was first to reveal that she hadn’t warned Lewis about being on Love Island but hoped he wouldn’t be upset at her for taking part.

She said: ‘I think Lewis will find the fact I’m on the show funny. You never know, he might even vote.

‘Me and Lewis are still very, very friendly. You’ve seen his social media. He’s a very witty, funny guy, so he’ll probably make a total joke about it.’

Paige is currently coupled up in the villa with Ollie, though the pair are yet to establish a romantic connection.
