‘Love Is Blind’ Contestants Carlton and Diamond Clear the Air About Their Blowup
That brutal breakup from Love Is Blind finally has a happy ending.
Before having ever seen each other in person, Carlton Morton and Diamond Jack got engaged on Netflix’s new reality show, Love Is Blind. The couple had only “known” each other for a matter of days before they took off for Mexico on a faux-honeymoon—and their relationship spiraled downhill quickly.
Carlton, 34, waited until Mexico to tell Diamond, 28, that he’d previously dated men and women. Diamond, who felt lied to, was initially taken aback—but overall responded very positively, simply wanting to ask a few questions about Carlton’s sexuality and how it may impact their marriage. Carlton responded defensively, then aggressively, and the conversation ended with name-calling and Diamond throwing pool water in her now ex-fiancé’s face. (You can read my full take of the blowup here, but in short, internalized biphobia is real, painful, and can mess with romantic relationships.)
Carlton and Diamond caught up with People nearly a year-and-a-half after their fight (Love Is Blind was filmed in October and November of 2018) to discuss what they wish they would have done differently and how fans of the show have responded.

For almost a year following their fight, Carlton and Diamond didn’t speak. In fact, Carlton skipped a lot of the cast meet-ups to avoid running into Diamond and making things awkward. Only a few months ago, Carlton decided to reach out to Diamond with a “Happy Holidays” text. This led to small talk, until Carlton decided to call Diamond before the show’s release.
Since then, the couple has slowly been rebuilding—perhaps “friendship” is too strong of a word—but a cordial relationship.
While talking to People, Carlton admitted his big mistake with Diamond was his defensiveness. “I thought that I was being rejected and I think I counted myself out before she did,” he said.
Even though Diamond responded pretty well, she also admitted she would have changed her approach. “I was trying to be very understanding, but I had questions because I’ve never been with a bisexual man,” she said. “Maybe I should have been more encouraging and maybe start off saying, ‘I’m happy you were able to open up to me. I’m happy you’re able to bring this to my attention at this moment in time.’” She believes doing this could have “changed that whole outcome of how we were aggressive toward each other.”
Both of the cast members received death threats following the show’s release. Diamond has also been called both biphobic and homophobic.
“I respect that community,” she said. “It’s not that we don’t care about you or it’s not that we hate you. It’s just the fact that we just have the lack of knowledge… I just didn’t know. I feel like people should not label me because I was curious about that community that I did not really know about.”
As for the future of their relationship?
“At this point, whatever happens, happens,” said Carlton. “I think we both have to still process the way we feel. We still have different views on the way things panned out and what was done wrong.”
Diamond added, “Exactly… We have a lot of growing, both of us, to do and I am willing to grow. I love growing but I feel like we can at least come now to a medium and be able to sit and now talk because this is a very touchy subject. And both of us still get emotional about it.”
