Biggs Chris has revealed he thought he was going to marry his ex-girlfriend Rebecca Gormley and said she is the right person at the wrong time.

The Love Island star, 29, has candidly discussed his split with Rebecca, 23, after the brunette beauty revealed the news earlier this week.

Biggs and Rebecca had decided to call time on their year-long romance earlier this month, but didn't tell the world straight away.

Now, after Rebecca revealed the news with her followers, Scottish star Biggs has shared his side of the story with OK!.

In an exclusive chat, Biggs revealed the split was sparked as he realised the pair wanted different things.

Biggs explained: "The truth is we've got different goals. I want different things and she wants different things in life so, it just changed the whole thing for me.

"And it just had to happen. The thing is I'm not getting any younger so I don't really have time to waste if I'm honest.

"But we're still cool, we're still friends. We're fine. It wasn't a bad breakup at all, it's fine."

He continued to explain: "She's got her own goals and I've got my goals."

Biggs went on to admit he didn't know Rebecca was going to announce the breakup in the way she did.

"I've been getting a lot of messages about Rebecca but I just ignored it," he said. "I just thought: 'Let me leave it for now'. But, yeah I didn't know she was gonna do that.

"Honestly, I'm still new to this public life so – everyone kept asking me questions and I was like: 'Oh man', I'm having to face the world but yeah, I don't know."

Although he wasn't aware Rebecca was going to share the news in the way she did, Biggs said he feels relieved now but is still clearly adjusting to single life.

"In a way it was like a relief at least somebody put it out there," he said. "But I just think it's weird because we were that couple goals.

"I genuinely thought I was gonna marry her. But, the reality is we've got different goals," he admitted to OK!.

Reflecting on the split, the Love Island hunk revealed the pair decided to part ways "about four weeks" ago.

Newly-single Biggs reflected on the split as he said: "It wasn't like: 'Look we are done'. I came back home, because I've got a property that I'm doing up and going to sell so, I was concentrating on that and she was doing whatever she was doing and by the time we knew it, it was like: 'You know what, we've actually got different lives'.

"I didn't leave Newcastle [where Rebecca lives] thinking: 'Oh it's over'. I had this feeling something wasn't right because I knew deep down our goals were so different.

"But, when I came back to Scotland it wasn't like I left, or we fell out, and we broke up."

Looking to the future, Biggs revealed he is hoping to find someone to settle down with but isn't in any rush.

He explained: "I wouldn't date straight away because it's a bit too soon but I'm definitely open if it's the right person.

"But, I'm not gonna start jumping into a relationship but I'm definitely open because I'm not getting any younger and I do want a family."
