Lucy Watson has opened up about the loss of her dog Digby a week after announcing her beloved pet had passed away.

During an Instagram Q+A, the former Made In Chelsea star revealed she’s still coming to terms with the shock as she reflected on her time with her adored pooch. "I was beside myself when it happened, it was all such a shock,” the 29 year old wrote.

“I still cry everyday and I’m sure it will take months to feel remotely normal. It’s a pain I’m learning to live with.”

She continued: “I am so grateful for the 7 years I had with him and I know he knew how loved and valued he was. So many animals/people are born into the world who don’t get shown love or kindness in their lifetime, so I am at peace knowing that he was.”

Lucy, who got engaged to former MIC co-star James Dunmore last month, added: “Thank you to everyone who has sent James and I kind and lovely messages over the last week, it really does mean a lot.”

She went on to detail the moments leading up to Digby’s death.

“He was totally fine, he jumped off the sofa in the afternoon (like he always did) and let out a little scream. He was shaking in the corner and when I went to pick him up he screamed in pain,” she explained.

“I took him straight to the vet and they took bloods etc. They thought it was a gastro bug and sent him home with pain killers. The next day he didn’t seem himself, but they informed me the pain medication could make him drowsy.

“He took a turn in the night and collapsed, I rushed him to the emergency room. They said his liver had ruptured and he was bleeding out… he didn’t survive the surgery.”

Lucy added she still has no answers about the sudden tragedy.

“Since then I have had an autopsy done & they have informed me that everything was normal, his blood work etc was healthy, I am still trying to get to the bottom of what happened,” she wrote.

“It’s all very painful and confusing, of course all I want at this point is an explanation.”

When asked how she’s been dealing with her grief, she said: “I think we all know when people/animals get old, they die and it’s important to prepare for that. It’s harder to prepare for the unexpected.

“To live a long, happy, life is such a luxury. It is definitely harder when they die before their time and that’s why you have to love them hard every single day that they are with you, each day is a blessing…

“I am no expert at dealing with grief, this is the biggest and most painful loss I have ever experienced, but my lovely boyfriend (fiancé) has helped me through every step of the way. You just have to cry, a lot, try to eat, drink, rest.”

She added: “Time does make things easier & soon you can look back on memories fondly. We have openly celebrated dig and so many great moments we shared, we’re not afraid to talk about him and that’s healthy.”

Last week, Lucy posted a tribute to her “best friend” Digby.

Sharing a string of snaps on Instagram, she wrote: “I knew this day would come, I used to tear up just thinking about it. I wish more than anything that we could have had more time together…

“But I am so beyond grateful for the time we did get to share and I know I loved you as much as physically possible every single day.”
