Manchester United open talks over £45m alternative to Yerry Mina

Jerome Boateng’s solid second-half display against Manchester United on Sunday night may have been his final action for Bayern Munich – and the first of many appearances for the Red Devils.

The German centre-back has spent seven years in Bavaria since he signed from Manchester City, representing the club 157 times and winning 10 major titles, but he could be on his way back to the North West.

Berlin-based tabloid Bild is reporting that Boateng is set to sign for his most recent opponents and former rivals United before the English transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday.

Jose Mourinho seems to be desperate for his Old Trafford superior Ed Woodward to close the deal.

The Portuguese said before the friendly: "My CEO knows what I want for a long time. He knows what I want. I know that he tries to do the best for me and I still have a few days to see what is going to happen.

"If we don’t make our team better it will be a difficult season for us."

Bild believes that Bayern are demanding a transfer fee in the region of £45million for the 2014 World Cup winnner, while United could have plenty of cash to splash if they sell Anthony Martial.

But they could face stiff opposition from Paris Saint-Germain who are allegedly keen to add to their defensive options after losing out to Juventus on the signature of Leonardo Bonucci.

Though it was only a warm-up, United’s 1-0 defeat to the Bundesliga champions appeared to expose a gap between the teams. Perhaps this deal could go some way to redressing the balance.

Would Jerome Boateng be a good signing for Manchester United?
