Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Could Be Stripped of Their Titles Following Oprah Interview
Is it possible to be hungover from receiving too much piping hot English tea? If so, we are the mental equivalent of hunched over the toilet with a pounding headache repeating the phrase "I will never drink again" aloud.
Oprah Winfrey's interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry aired on Sunday night and it was even more explosive than we expected. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex detailed the racism both Meghan and baby Archie were subject to, including a conversation in which an undisclosed member of the royal family raised "concerns" regarding the color of Archie's skin before he was born. Markle described the mental health struggles she endured during her first pregnancy, which escalated to the point that she was suicidal. The duchess even set the record straight regarding the much-reported incident in which Markle made Kate Middleton cry — "the reverse happened."
Anyway, despite silence from the palace in the wake of the revelatory tell-all, sources are claiming that it's possible that the couple's duke and duchess titles could be stripped. According to The Sunday Times, officials have said "nothing is off the table" in terms of fallout. "It has never been done before but there are people who think it is both feasible and desirable," a source shared.
Last week palace courtiers reportedly discussed removing Markle and Harry's titles "on the grounds that the dukedom was given by the Queen on the understanding that Harry would be a senior working member of the family."
Though removing titles is a "big step" that would violate the agreement previously made about the Sussex's exit, the Queen is reportedly so "cheesed off" by the interview that a royal source said, "I don't think that after this interview anything is off the table, to be honest." Mind you, this was all said before the interview had even aired.
