Meghan Markle Was Followed By James Bond-Style Badasses on the Set of Suits
Back in May, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in a ceremony that gave the world a reason to believe in love and forget about mass shootings for a few hours.
Of course, as you probably know, even before she landed the world’s most eligible bachelor, Meghan was no stranger to the spotlight.
Prior to being dubbed the Duchess of Sussex — which is a title that was literally invented for her, because royalty is a weird-ass institution — Meghan was one of the stars of the long-running USA Network series Suits.
If you’ve never seen an episode of the show, you’re not alone.
Like Burn Notice and Rizzoli & Isles before it, Suits is one of those shows that’s been on forever, even though you don’t know anyone who will cop to watching it.
It’s the “voting for Trump” of basic cable.
The point is, Meghan lived a public life before she married Harry, but she was certainly no A-lister.
Which is why it’s a little weird that she enjoyed the protection of an agent from the UK’s vaunted MI5 security agency.
Wendell Pierce, a longtime co-star of Meghan’s recently opened up to Extra about the awkward period of time after Meghan and Harry had gone public with their relationship, but before she retired from acting.
“I actually didn’t think it was real, then all of a sudden I turn round and there is a guy from MI5 on set every day,” Pierce said.
“The one thing that was clear [was that] she was extremely happy,” the actor added.
“She had a glow. I knew she was in love. With the whirlwind of publicity and the world of being a royal now, the one thing that’s constant is the fact that I know she loves him.”
Obviously, it’s funny to imagine some Statham-esque mercenary following Meghan around the set and putting blow darts in the neck of any co-star who looked at her askance.
But it’s important to note that there was nothing funny about the circumstances that likely led to the decision to deploy an agent for Meg’s protection.
As you may recall, in the early days of her relationship with Harry, Meghan was subjected to racist vitriol from hateful dipsh-ts the world over.
We knew that the situation got so bad that Harry felt the need to issue a public statement telling the bigots to back off.
But until now, we had no idea that Buckingham Palace felt she needed a personal security detail.
Fortunately, the story has a happy ending — just not for the 12 diehard fans keeping Suits on the air.
