Mesut Ozil injury update after midfielder missed Fulham clash

Mesut Ozil is set to return to training on Tuesday to hand Arsenal a major boost after missing the Fulham win through injury.

The German playmaker started on the bench in the Europa League win over Qarabag, but his omission from the squad entirely for the encounter at Craven Cottage on Sunday caused a commotion.

A back spasm kept Ozil out, but the problem is not thought to be serious. And with no international duty with Germany now, the player will resume training on Tuesday with a view to starting for the Gunners a week on Monday against Leicester .

Unai Emery provided an update after thrashing the Cottagers to secure a ninth straight win.

"No, in each training [session] also he can get injured," Emery explained, dismissing the suggestion it was caused by the congested fixture schedule.

"For example Holding, Monreal, Iwobi, Welbeck played today [against Fulham] and Thursday. I think they have the capacity to play a lot of matches.

"They are big and in the level of these matches every player wants to play and they are preparing for that."

Injury data analyst Ben Dinnery reports Ozil will begin his recovery on Tuesday whilst the majority of his team-mates are away on international duty.
