Michael Jackson Leads List Of Top Earning Dead Celebrities
Michael Jackson tops the list for this year’s highest earnings dead celebrities, with total earnings of £313 million over the past year.
Jackson’s revenues were largely from the sale of his stake in EMI Music Publishing. A new record deal with Sony and Michael Jackson’s Halloween, an animated TV special also contributed to the total earnings.
Jackson has topped the list for the sixth year in a row after dying in 2009 of an overdose. Jackson has generated £1.8 billion since his death.
Rock and Roll legend Elvis Presley came in second on the list, with earnings of £31 million. The late singer’s earnings came from music sales, tickets to Graceland and a new entertainment complex called Elvis Presley’s Memphis.
Golfer Arnold Palmer secured third place with earnings of £27 million, while Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz came in at fourth position with £26 million, and reggae singer Bob Marley was fifth with £18 million.
Author Dr Seuss was sixth with £12 million, while Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, who died last year, came in at seventh with £11.7 million. Marilyn Monroe was in eighth position with earnings of £11 million, while Prince and The Beatles‘ John Lennon rounded off the top 10 with earnings of £10 million and £9 million, respectively.
