Miranda Kerr has a surprising secret to staying in shape

It goes without saying that supermodel Miranda Kerr knows a thing or two about keeping her body in shape — after all, that was literally her job for many years before she delved into the beauty industry. So it’s really no surprise that she takes fitness so seriously. But it may surprise you what Kerr says she does every day in order to keep her physique in tip-top shape. 

Ladies, you can officially kiss your StairMaster goodbye. As it turns out the skincare entrepreneur swears by one simple exercise: squats. You’re welcome. While speaking to Byrdie, Kerr revealed “I believe in doing squats whenever you can.” She also added, “If you can just do 10 squats when you think about it, that’s a good way to remember and get exercise incorporated into your day.” Well, alrighty then. If a former Victoria’s Secret Angel swears by it, it must be true, right?!

Experts agree with Miranda Kerr — squats are good for you

It appears the experts tend to agree with Australia native, Miranda Kerr. A squat a day keeps the doctor away… or something like that, anyway. NASM-certified personal trainer, Katrina Pilkington, echoed Kerr’s sentiments telling Women’s Health in November 2019, “I tell my clients to do squats regularly wherever and whenever they can.” She continued by explaining, “There’s really no way to overdo them unless you’re using excessively heavy weight during training. In that case, you want to take rest days in between for muscle recovery.”

And if you’re wondering whether or not squats do more than just tone your tush, they do. Physical therapist Andy Sobuta of Spaulding Rehabilitation Center told Harvard Health Publishing in March 2019, “Squats are a great exercise because they activate so many bones and joints at once, such as the hips, knees, feet, and ankles, as well as muscles like the quads, gluteals, hip flexors, hamstrings, and calves.” In short, “squats can help you build and maintain a stronger lower body, which makes movement easier and allows you to stay active,” he explained.
