Owen Wilson on Whether Wedding Crashers 2<\/i> Is Actually Happening
Listen, if we were to sit here and list the essential comedies of the 2000s? We’d be here all day swimming in nostalgia. Mean Girls, Borat, Talladega Nights, Dodgeball. Phew.
For today’s purposes, we’d like to reminisce on one gem only: 2005’s Wedding Crashers, staring the legends Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. The film encapsulated everything we loved about that era of funny: A total lack of self-seriousness and an all-in amount of seize-the-dayness. We loved it. We miss it. So when Esquiretalked to Owen Wilson for a new episode of their video series “Explain This,” on the occasion of their new cover story with the actor, they had to ask him if a sequel was in the cards.
“I guess if the people rise up and demand it, then who are we to say no?” Wilson said. “I do think that Vince and I have been talking about when this pandemic ends, maybe, crashing some weddings in real life just to celebrate a return to normalcy. So maybe we’ll get some inspiration from that.”
Dear People: Can you rise up and demand it, please? Thank you. In the meantime, we’d love to see Wilson and Vaughn start turning up at random weddings, in character, when it’s safe to be spontaneous again. Check out the rest of the video, where Wilson talks about all of his famous roles, from Kevin the Ex to Mobius M. Mobius. We’ll play you out to the tune of Wilson talking about his friendship with Vaughn.
“It wasn’t until we were sort of working on Wedding Crashers we became friends,” he said. “And I don’t know, some people you just hit it off with, and are simpatico with.”
