This Morning host Phillip Schofield, 58, launched his self-chosen white and red wines, which were ethically sourced from independent Italian vineyards, in April. His white wine Benevento IGT Falanghina and red wine Nero di Troia IGT are currently being sold at £19.99 each, slashed from £24.99.

Phillip previously told fans he had never been “so passionate” about a product, however the boxes of wines have received mixed reviews on the Waitrose website.

In comments about his red wine, one user branded the product a “very bad buy and very disappointing,” while another said it was “an awful product”.

“Surprised he has put his name to it. Wouldn’t even use for cooking,” the reviewer wrote online.

Another savagely said the drink was “only fit for the bin”.

Despite the bad reviews, the wine has been rated 3.7 out of five stars on the website, with many others praising the drink.

Another commented: “A smooth delicious wine which really surprised me. I’ll definitely be buying again.”

“A very enjoyable wine, great value for money, highly recommend,” a further review reads.

Phillip’s white wine has also received mixed reviews, with an overall score of 2.7 out of five stars.

“I often buy this, it is great and it’s my favourite wine to have each evening since it goes with almost anything I make,” a person in question penned.

Another said the wine was “decent” and “a good one to share with friends”.

However, others were not so impressed as another penned: “Zero flavour just bitter and unpalatable.

“I was expecting big things from this for the price but very disappointed.”

An additional reviewer penned: “Bought this as I expected it to be really good because of the name and the price, unfortunately it was money wasted.”

Despite this, the white wine won a bronze award in the 2020 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) last month.

Phillip announced his new partnership with the supermarket chain back in April on his social media pages.

He said in a statement: “When I agreed to this partnership, I had certain conditions; I wanted to be part of the tasting team.

“I wanted figures on how eco-friendly box wine was and I wanted it to be good value. The result is something I felt I could really invest in.

“I have really enjoyed the process of sourcing, selecting and now sharing these wines with everyone.”

He added: “I don’t think there is anything I have been so passionate about, so I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do.”

Ahead of this, he gave fans an insight into the wines he had tasted and loved to help create his products.

This Morning airs weekday from 10am on ITV.
