Piers Morgan: GMB host calls Dan Walker ‘desperate’ as they argue over ratings in spat

Piers Morgan, 54, brought up the ratings battle between Good Morning Britain and  BBC Breakfast during today’s episode of the ITV daytime show and Dan Walker was less than impressed with the presenter’s claims. Piers branded the BBC favourite “Desperate Dan” as co-star Susanna Reid, 48, suggested GMB was “closing in” on the ratings gap between the two daytime shows.

The outspoken star added: “There will be plenty more of where that came from when we overtake BBC Breakfast… it’ll happen.”

Piers continued: “If you’ve ditched BBC Breakfast for Good Morning Britain and you want to tell us why we’re going to read out some of your tributes.

“We’re going to read out lots of people saying ‘The reason I quit Desperate Dan and BBC Breakfast is because… and all the funniest and best ones we’re going to put on air throughout our celebration show today.

Piers then put up a split image of Dan alongside The Dandy character Desperate Dan and exclaimed: “There he is – Desperate Dan.”

Piers’ GMB co-star Richard Arnold then told him: “Oh stop it. He’s a lovely looking fellow.”

However, Piers didn’t hold back as he added: “I can see Dan Walker in a few years when it all goes horribly wrong piling on the pounds, unshaven with a funny hat.”

Dan was quick to hit back as he took the debate to Twitter and shared the average viewing figures from yesterday morning with his 592,000 followers.

The image showed BBC Breakfast was watched by an average audience of 1.44 million, while GMB had 726,000 viewers tuning in.

The Football Focus presenter added the caption: “I know many don’t care but for the sake of balance & accuracy…

“These are the average viewing figures from yesterday morning. Thanks for watching #Bbcbreakfast & making us number 1.”

In reference to Good Morning Britain, he cheekily added: “(They are closer to Floogals than they are to us).”

Piers refused to back down as he responded to Dan’s tweet in view of his 6.9 million followers.

He fumed: “Hi Desperate Dan, for the sake of REAL accuracy, can you confirm @GMB ratings were 4 share points UP (again) on same day last year & yours were DOWN nearly 3 share points?”

The ITV host went on to compare the BBC show to the sinking Titanic and Dan to sacked Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, adding the hashtags: “#BBCTitanic #DanPochettino.”

Dan then fired back by pointing out that ITV’s viewing figures increase when GMB ends and Lorraine begins.

Posting more viewing statistics to prove his point, the sports journalist replied: “I have always said you and Susanna do a great job on GMB.
