As he posted the photograph on his Instagram, he finally revealed he had jetted off to Saint Tropez after keeping the location of his summer getaway under wraps.

Piers shared the photo with his 1.2million Instagram and simply wrote alongside it: “Provence!”

TV star Piers’ photo received more than 37,000 likes from fans, but received a mixed response in the comments.

Some fans wished Piers well and praised him for his hard work on GMB recently, shortly after he announced he would be taking two months away from the show.

One said: “Enjoy your break you’ve been fantastic on GMB with pandemic and supporting care homes ! I am a care home manager and salute you have an amazing holiday and thank you !”

While another added: “Amazing piers you enjoy you deserve it, And your family”. [sic]

And a third wrote: “Wow looks amazing have lovey well earned rest,” followed by a smiling face with sunglasses emoji.

But, not all fans were keen to wish Piers well and some labelled him a hypocrite for the trip.

One scathed: “Dr Hilary said DONT fly. Why do you preach on TV then do the opposite”.

Another wrote: "Whilst others stayed in and saved lives."

A third commented: “USA is closed for all none essential flights. Only a few months ago your screaming why are the builders working, go home. Such a hypocrite.”

Despite the criticism, Piers has stuck to government guidelines as he has travelled to France, where there are no travel restrictions if you live in England.

The Foreign Office travel advice states: “The Foreign & Commonwealth Office currently advises British nationals against all but essential international travel.

“Travel to some countries and territories is currently exempted.”

It adds: “From 4 July, France is exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel. This is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.”
