Piers Morgan, 55, left Good Morning Britain a few weeks ago after his comments on Meghan Markle garnered more than 57,000 complaints to Ofcom. The presenter has now opened up to fans about “what went down” in a new tweet about him quitting the show.
Piers replied to a follower in front of his 7.8 million followers last night about his GMB exit.
They had written a summary of what they thought had happened during him when he quit the morning news show.
They penned: “I’ll tell you why I respect @piersmorgan, irrespective of whether or not I agree with him.
“He said something, meant it sincerely, was attacked for it, then stuck by his guns, accepted consequences.
“He owned what he said & he meant it. I can’t fault him for that.”
Piers then responded to the tweet, saying this is exactly what happened when he left.
He replied: “Thank you. This is a perfect summary of what went down.”
This is not the first time the television personality has attempted to clear up what happened.
A former CNN colleague tweeted the star after his exit was announced claiming he was “fired”.
Ana Navarro-Cárdenas wrote on March 9: “If no other change comes out of the #OprahMeghanHarry interview, that it lead (sic) to @piersmorgan getting fired again from yet another job, seems like a good outcome for the benefit of humanity”.
Piers responded to this a few days later, telling her she had it all wrong.
He wrote: “Hi Ana, I wasn’t fired by ITV (I’m still working for them) just as I wasn’t fired by CNN (I was offered a new 2-year deal – ask Jeff).

“But great to see you’re just as big a treacherous little back-stabber now as you were when I worked at CNN.”
Piers left GMB after he made comments about Meghan following her landmark interview with Oprah Winfrey.
During the chat, the Duchess of Sussex made claims about the Royal Family and also spoke openly about her mental health struggles.
Appearing on the ITV morning news show the next day, Piers told viewers how he didn’t believe her.
This led to more than 57,000 people complaining to regulatory board Ofcom, which was the highest number in British television history.
Piers also faced criticism from his fellow presenters, including weatherman Alex Beresford who confronted him on the March 9 show.
The presenter then stormed off after Alex’s remarks and later that day it was confirmed he had left the show.
ITV said in a statement: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
