Pippa Middleton's Trainer Gives an Inside Look at Her Pregnancy Workouts

Pippa Middleton is still eagerly exercising well into her third trimester. The mom-to-be, who is reportedly due next month, recently opened up about adding barre workouts into her pregnancy fitness routine. And Ashley Varma, founder of barre studio Define London, said Middleton was “excited, nervous” and “very open” during her training.

“She walked in and she was super nice and very open,” Varma told Hello!. “She was like, ‘You’re the new kid on the block, this is amazing, what do I need to do?’ She wasn’t 1000 percent on certain barre-related things, so it was really great because she was completely open to it and lovely. She was taking it all in.”

Varma added that Middleton boasts a “great energy,” is a happy person, has “glowing skin,” eats healthy snacks, and drinks a lot of water. In other words, Pippa is total #HealthGoals in her third trimester.

Middleton wouldn’t reveal her due date or the sex of her baby. When Varma asked, all she got back was “a cheeky little grin,” she told Hello!. Pippa is reportedly keeping the sex of her baby a surprise, much like her sister Kate has done with all three of her children.

In her latest column for Waitrose Weekend, the mom-to-be said she took up barre to improve her posture and tone her muscles. Varma says the workout is “unbelievably beneficial for your pre and post-natal journey.” It’s definitely the most interesting workout in Middleton’s routine, which also includes swimming, playing tennis, and biking.

Experts agree that light exercise is healthy during pregnancy, as its benefits may include alleviating back pain, decreasing risk of diabetes, and strengthening the heart, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Its guidelines suggest pregnant women to do 150 minutes of moderate exercise a week, depending on a person’s daily routine prior to getting pregnant.

Barre is a safe option, since it’s a low-impact workout. The ballet-inspired exercises help strengthen and tone muscles without bulk, improves posture, and increases metabolism, according to Physique 57.
