Prince William and Kate Middleton share beautiful tribute to Queen on 96th birthday

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge posted a loving tribute to the Queen for her 96th birthday.

Prince William and Kate Middleton praised to the monarch as she celebrated her birthday on Thursday, sharing a couple of photos on Instagram of personal moments with the Queen in their tribute.

In one shot, the 96 year old is seen in conversation with the Duke and Duchess outdoors, wearing a bright yellow coat with white gloves and a purple printed dress underneath.

The second image was taken by Kate herself and shows the monarch with the late Prince Philip as they sat with their great-grandchildren, Prince George — who was pictured sporting matching tartan to his great-grandmother — Prince Louis and Princess Charlotte.

“Wishing Her Majesty The Queen a very happy 96th birthday today!” Prince William and Kate captioned on their joint Instagram account.

“An inspiration to so many across the UK, the Commonwealth and the world, it’s particularly special to be celebrating in this #PlatinumJubilee year.”

The Duke and Duchess’ tribute to the Queen comes after Her Majesty released a new portrait to mark her birthday.

The snap shows her stood in between two white Cobs horses.

The Queen is dressed in a dark olive green coat while holding onto the reins of each horse and flashing a smile.

The portrait highlights the monarch’s lifetime affection for horses, having owned several and ridden for much of her life up until last September, when she reportedly had to stop due to “discomfort”.

A source told The Sun at the time: “She was in quite a bit of discomfort. She adores riding and it has been part of her ritual for most of her life.

"She has been extremely disappointed not to go riding since the beginning of September.”

It's believed that the Queen will take time out from celebrations this month and relax until her official birthday later in June, which typically involves lively public events such as street parties.

“When Philip was alive she’d have a birthday meal with him, and she’ll miss that,” author of The Queen: 70 Chapters in the Life of Elizabeth II Ian Lloyd told OK! exclusively.

“I imagine there will be an occasion at Windsor that involves her children and grandchildren. It’ll certainly include local family members like Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Sophie Countess of Wessex and their children Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn.”
