Richard Madeley’s exit has stunned viewers, but his family has since spoken out about his abrupt departure by insisting that the 65-year-old was doing “fine” and that he was gutted to have left the ITV show this early.

Richard, who took on Castle Kitchen Nightmares in last night’s Bushtucker Trial, reportedly began feeling unwell just hours after the challenge took place. And due to the Covid restrictions producers have put in place to keep contestants safe during their time in camp, the Essex native was forced to pull out of the reality series.

Thank you for all your lovely messages

His daughter Chloe Madeley was sure to waste no time after taking to her Instagram platform on Thursday afternoon to let her 237,000 followers know her father was in good spirits after his exit. She continued by mentioning how appreciative she was of all of the kind messages sent her way from concerned fans.

“Thank you for all your lovely messages,” the fitness guru said.

“Dad’s absolutely fine, we’ve been speaking to him all day and ultimately, he’s just livid he can’t go back into camp because of Covid restrictions.”

She concluded by saying: “He did himself proud, though. He worked hard and was his calm, collected, kind and funny self. We are so proud.”

Richard also issued a statement on his departure from the camp to his fans online.

He used a promotional photo of himself wearing his I’m A Celeb gear, while his caption stressed that fans had nothing to worry about because he was “absolutely fine,” despite being taken to the hospital early Thursday morning.

“Richard here – firstly just to say that I’m absolutely FINE. I started to feel briefly unwell in the small hours of the morning and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

“By leaving the camp, I had consequently broken the Covid’ bubble’ and as such I’ve had to leave the castle and all the wonderful celebs that remain in the camp.”

He continued to stress that the safety of his fellow campmates was his utmost priority and that while he would no longer appear on the show, he’ll continue watching the remaining contestants continue their journey without him.

Richard quipped that he would continue to watch the rest of the series “somewhere a little warmer than Gwrych Castle”.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me on my brief but completely unforgettable adventure.

“I’ve made some great friends and honestly had the time of my life,” he concluded.

An on-site medical team had been rushed to Richard’s side after he complained of feeling unwell before being admitted to a nearby hospital for precautionary measures.

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service confirmed that a rapid response car was sent to the castle, including a paramedic and an emergency ambulance shortly before the “patient was taken to hospital”.

Following news of Richard’s hospitalisation, his Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid was one of many who had sent their well wishes to the TV personality on social media.

She tweeted: “Sending love – hope he’s feeling ok now. Doing brilliant job on#IACGMOOH and being supportive to everyone. Get well soon Richard.”

During Richard’s trial on Wednesday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity, he had scooped up four stars in his first solo challenge but later admitted that the ordeal had left him feeling “freezing”.

In some parts of the challenge, the former Richard and Judy presenter was forced to use his mouth to untie knots from several robes with stars attached to them.

While being drenched in fish guts and offal, Richard complained that he couldn’t loosen any of the knots because they were “wet and tight”, which had left Ant and Dec in hysterics.

“Who tied these knots? It’s wet and it’s tight. This one isn’t at tight’, prompting laughs from Ant and Dec,” Richard expressed.

“Such a disappointment. We’ll have something to eat tonight. I was really hoping to do better than that.”
